Congratulations! Because of your support, and others like you, the first set of triplets has been born at MBF’s Haiti partner, Hôpital Ste. Croix (HSC). Mom, Sherile, and babies are doing well and the future looks bright for this new family and the many others that HSC is able to serve. Can you imagine what Sherile must be feeling right now? Not one, but three precious lives she has brought into this world.
Almost immediately, a mother has the instinct to comfort the little life in her care. With those first feedings, caresses and diaper changes in the hospital, she learns how to comfort. Yet in a developing country like Haiti, that comfort can look very different. Haiti is the most dangerous place in the western hemisphere for a woman to give birth and for a newborn to survive.
MBF began partnering with HSC in 1982 and has supported a number of construction and renovation projects on the hospital campus. Starting out as a small outpatient clinic in 1968, the hospital is now a 60-bed inpatient facility with a new patient tower, two operating rooms, maternity care, a dental clinic, and medical care for both acute and chronic illness. We continue to work with HSC to develop and implement plans and projects that will help them deliver quality and sustainable health care.
Not so long ago, in the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake, it would have been hard to imagine that HSC would be able to deliver any babies, let alone a healthy set of triplets. With your support and that of other U.S. partners, MBF is proud of the achievements of HSC and its other Haiti partners. We are excited about plans for HSC’s new Women and Children’s Center that will include private rooms, a nursery, upgraded patient rooms, a nurses’ station and a special-care nursery. It is a place that will give mothers like Sherile and their babies a chance for a safe beginning and hope for the future.
Like HSC, many of our other partners are moving forward with plans to improve their facilities so that they too, can provide the best quality patient care available.
This Mother’s Day consider honoring the mother in your life by helping new moms better comfort their babies.
– A gift of $100 could pay for the pre and post-natal care that a mother needs for a healthy delivery.
– $300 could provide specialized training for a pediatric doctor and a nurse
– A gift of $500 could equip a nursery with neonatal monitors. Any amount is helpful and will support every effort to sustain life
God bless you as you honor those you love. His comforting touch will be known and felt by mothers and their babies, as they are able to receive quality patient care through our partners.
Give your gift below to help those who need it most and honor those you love.
