Lynn Swinke Workman has been sharing her enthusiastic
message about PC(USA) medical missions with individuals and churches
throughout the south central United States. Lynn felt God’s call in her
life as a teenager. The first time she visited one of the church’s
medical mission outposts, she thought, "They need me here. I should stay
here and help." But she soon realized the privilege she had to be a
courier representing what God is doing through Christians in needy
places around the world, and to encourage Presbyterians to get involved.
"The neatest part of my job is that I know I’m making a difference,"
Lynn says.
What is the most difficult part of her job? “Getting people to
understand that it’s important to give specifically to the ministry of
MBF, and not just particular projects supported by MBF. Without general
funds, we could not provide the necessary staff to work with individual
churches, nor could we ship medical supplies in response to particular
needs that come to our attention.”
During her years at MBF Lynn has worked or visited mission stations in
Bangladesh, Cameroon, Haiti, India, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Nepal,
the Democratic Republic of Congo and several others. She now works
strictly with congregations, and in a much larger geographic area.
Lynn and her husband Tucker have been blessed with three exceptional and
talented children. Dax, Brianna and Damon. Each of them has remained
supportive of Lynn particularly during her extensive travel and
excessive absence as a parent.
